Coronation Street SPOILER: Amy and Aaron’s drunken night out takes a dark turn

A hard-hitting new storyline will kick off on Coronation Street next week, as Aaron Sandford rapes Amy Barlow after a drunken night out.

The two flatmates head home together after Aaron has an argument with his girlfriend Summer, and share a kiss as they continue to drink.

In upcoming scenes, a visibly-drunk Amy heads to her bedroom and begins to undress, but admits she feels sick and rolls over, while Aaron continues to kiss her.

He then decides that they will have sex, and the next morning Amy realises how far things went the night before.

First look images from the episode show the moment the storyline will unfold, after bosses revealed last week that they would be tackling the issue of consent in the episode, which will air on March 3.

In the upcoming scenes, Summer (Harriet Bibby) is furious when she discovers her boyfriend Aaron (James Craven) has been having late night phone conversations with his ex Mia.

Later in the week, she confides in Amy (Elle Mulvaney) about how she’s struggling to trust Aaron, after the couple went through a turbulent time when Summer miscarried their unborn baby.

Amy tells Summer she’s needy and insecure, and she immediately hits back with a jibe about Jacob (Jack James Ryan), who recently fled the Street after being threatened by his father Damon.

Aaron later finds Amy upset after the row, and revealing he’s being promoted to mechanic after his probation, he’s in the mood celebrate and suggests they go out for cocktails at The Bistro.

As Amy and Aaron get ready over a few drinks, the sexual chemistry is evident and they find themselves kissing.

Amy pulls away, wracked with guilt, and after struggling watching Summer with Aaron at the bistro she heads home.

As Aaron and Summer snipe at each other, ruining everyone’s evening, he announces he’s going too.

Back at the flat Amy and Aaron play drinking games, polishing off every drop of alcohol in the flat.

Coronation Street confirmed last week that they would be tackling the issue of non-consensual sex in a new storyline, with the fallout set to throw the Barlow family into turmoil as the police get involved.

In upcoming episodes, Amy slowly begins to piece together what happened that night, and realises that she’s been raped, but Aaron repeatedly insists that their sex was consensual and he’s done nothing wrong.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
