‘Having a beautiful young wife helps!’: Dick Van Dyke, 97, reveals his secrets for staying fit after wowing viewers as Gnome on The Masked Singer US
Dick Van Dyke has credited his ‘beautiful young wife’ as the key to his youthfulness at the age of 97.
The Mary Poppins star married 51-year-old make-up artist Arlene Silver in 2012 and previously revealed the couple keep fit by singing and dancing together.
His stamina was showcased during his recent stint on The Masked Singer US, where he delighted audiences with his work as Gnome.
Speaking about the key to his energy, Dick told Yahoo: ‘Genes, I guess, for one thing. Having a beautiful young wife half my age to take care of me – that works!
‘My positive attitude, I get that from my wife.’

He went on to note: ‘And one other thing is, I wrote a book called Keep Moving: I still go to the gym three days a week and work out.
‘And I advise everybody to do that, because that’s what ages people — it’s just a stiffening up and not exercising their muscles and their lungs. Exercise is the answer.’
As talk turned to his work on the mystery singing competition The Masked Singer, he quipped: ‘Oh, it was so funny. It was the weirdest experience. They have a great crew there, and they took good care of me, but the minute I got out of the car, they covered my head!
‘I never got to meet or see anybody! I’m going to have to go back and meet them in person, because nobody ever saw me and I never saw them. It was weird.’
The legendary entertainer performed a fun rendition of When You’re Smiling by Frank Sinatra on the show and left panelist Nicole Scherzinger, 44, in tears when he revealed his identity.
‘This is the most seasoned and most decorated we’ve had on our show, ladies and gentlemen,’ said show host Nick Cannon, 42, as Dick revealed his identity.
Nicole openly wept as Nick asked Dick what it was like being the Gnome.
‘It was really dark in there… I couldn’t see anything,’ Dick said.

Dick then performed a final time and treated the audience to a rendition of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from the 1964 film Mary Poppins that included a little dancing from the entertainer.
While not a single member of the panel had been able to guess Dick’s identity it should have come at no surprise that he’s still able to get down and groove.
Last year, he showcased his singing and dance moves in a cute Valentine’s Day video with Arlene, where they performed a cheery cover of Everybody Loves a Lover, a Richard Adler and Robert Allen song made popular by Doris Day in 1958.
Despite being a nonagenarian, Dick has continued to perform in his recent years, and in 2020 formed a barbershop quartet called The Vantastix, who also appeared in the music video.
